With a renewed zeal on being selected to the Top 20 of the IFDI Challenge, we were off to the Cultural capital of Maharashtra, Pune. We never imagined we would be making Devi House at Shivaji Nagar, our office base for the next 3 months.
Until we were asked the question “Are you willing to stay in Pune for the next 3 months?” by the jury for the Top 20 selection, we had not seriously considered the option. We were overwhelmed and excited when we heard about the Intel-DST Innovate for Digital India challenge. Such a large scale challenge with a special focus on electronics hardware was a great opportunity. With our background in product development, we know the challenges of making products in India and so, were very eager to grab this opportunity. Communication allows people and systems to interact purposively and co-operatively to achieve their exact goal without any deviation. To keep workers safe, communication is essential. Workers must know about the risks they face and how proper communication helps in workplace safety.
Non-effective communication systems are critical to engage staff in safety activities. A well designed approach which consist of practical and technical safety strategies may help to resolve this problem.
Safety communication comes in varying forms including policies and procedures, statistics, hazard and incident reports, workplace inductions, risk assessments, and training. Legal requirements should be fulfilled by all these elements.
Usual communicating practices like telephone calls, email, written instructions, responding to technical and non-technical queries from employees and HSE colleagues may take high proportion of a working day.
By taking into account of all these constraints, GORL developed a full fledged Hygiene and Safety Application. Direct and indirect costs of an incidence may lead to a loss. Reason behind for this loss is -improper SMS implementation. Proper SMS will have positive impacts on workers by creating trusts and leads into better performance.
Unexpected injuries alone cost more per year- workers’ compensation, lost wages, damaged equipment and materials, production delays, other workers’ time losses, selection and training costs for replacement workers, and accident reporting.
Greenocean Research Lab’s(GORL) Safety management system (SMS) modules developed through cloud computing with scalability which include risk management, asset management, and return to work/injury management.SMS will be maximized through dashboard reporting, statistics and app functionality and etc. Through equipment maintenance, calibration, PPE, training and etc it can lead to – better performance, prevent accidents/incidents and making it safer.
